Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Efoil?

An EFoil is a revolutionary watercraft that combines surfing, hydrofoiling, and electric propulsion. A surfboard-like deck is equipped with a hydrofoil below the water’s surface. The hydrofoil is connected to a powerful electric motor, usually mounted in a waterproof compartment beneath the board. This motor drives a propeller or jet at the base of the mast. The forward thrust that is created allows the rider to glide above the water’s surface at impressive speeds, without the need for wind or waves.

How are the Efoils powered?

Efoils are powered by electricity and release no emissions. Re-chargeable batteries are housed in the board itself. The rider uses a handheld controller to engage the propeller to make the board go.

Is Efoiling dangerous?

In the world of watersports, injuries are certainly possible and Efoils are no exception. While 99% of your falls may be harmless, simply splashing into water, there is always a chance that you could get hurt. Efoil Belize instructors take precautions to safeguard students and provide life vests and helmets.

How long does it take to learn?

This depends on the ability of the rider. However, most people are able to stand on the moving board within the first half hour. The act of foiling, lifting out the water and going back down again, may take a couple of hours to learn to control.
